Description
A portrait of Violet Ruth Young VanHouten. Considering she died on June 28th 1927 at the age of 31 , we can assume this photo was taken towards the end of her life. Compared to the other portrait she looks like she has aged about 10 years which would put her close to the end of her life. We can am assume this picture was taken during her late 20's maybe even 30 or 31. By this time she most likely had already married her husband Herman Chester Van Houten and had their two children Jay Richard Van Houten and Albert F. Van Houten. In this photo she is wearing a dress that has a high V-cut neck and folded over collar that has lace decorations. Her hair is done in what is known as a low coiffure Pompadour. This hairstyle was the beginning of what were known as "Edwardian hairstyles".
